Forklift Accident Led to Death of Cotton Gin Worker

A man who was injured while working at the Jones County Cotton Gin on Tuesday died of his injuries later that evening. The 62-year-old man from Trenton was rushed to Pitt County Memorial Hospital after sustaining traumatic injuries while driving a forklift in Cotton Gin's warehouse. The man was moving cotton bales in the warehouse with a forklift and was found on the ground off the forklift beside some bales that had fallen from a stack. These bales weighed several hundred pounds each and police are investigating the accident to determine if the fallen bales had actually killed the man.

The N.C. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Division are also investigating the accident to determine if there were any violations of the state's occupational safety and health standards. These safety standards are a vital part of workplace safety and workers assume that they will be safe at work if these standards are being followed. If you or someone you love has been injured in an industrial accident of any kind, it may be as a result of safety violations.
