Employee Dies in Houston Forklift Accident

On early Wednesday morning, January 4, an employee was involved in a forklift accident while working at an industrial warehouse complex. The employee died at the scene of the accident after being hit by the forklift; however, there have been no other injuries that have been linked to the occurrence. It is currently unclear what the cause of the accident was and the Houston Police Department is still investigating the case.

Forklift accidents are unfortunately all too common on industrial worksites. In fact, according to statistics released by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), there are over 680,400 forklift accidents that occur on an annual basis injuring over 9,000 employees. This can typically be linked to the employees being hit a load falling off the equipment, being actually hit by the vehicle, from the forklift being improperly loaded and tipping over, from falling off the vehicle or even from electrocution happening while working.

It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that all safety regulations are met, that all employees are properly trained and that all machines are properly maintained so that all employees are working in a safe environment. If they fail to do so, you could have grounds to file a claim. If you or a loved one have been injured while working around forklifts, it is important to remember that you have rights that can and should be protected to the full extent of the law. We at Arnold & Itkin, LLP are here to help you file a claim and maximize your recovery.
