Investigators are reporting that early Saturday morning, right around 7:30
a.m., an explosion occurred at a plant in La Porte, Texas. The Air Liquide
plant, located at 11450 W. Fairmont Parkway on the south side of La Porte,
was involved in mixing several different chemicals. According to an Air
Liquide spokesperson, Michael Rosen, 20 different employees were assigned
to that facility, but it's unclear how many were working today.
According to the most recent reports, there is one person still unaccounted
for following the explosion and one person who has sustained severe burns;
the injured victim was airlifted to the University of Texas Medical Branch
at Galveston for immediate medical treatment. Reports are stating that
the explosion occurred during the process of mixing chemicals, although
it is still uncertain what the exact cause was.
Following the explosion, shelter-in-place orders were issued for surrounding
areas. The La Porte order was lifted quickly and in Pasadena, the order
was lifted shortly before 10 a.m. Currently, officials are monitoring
for poor air quality. Rosen stated, "To our knowledge and from the
authorities here who have been monitoring the air, nothing was released
into the atmosphere except for the smoke you all saw."
plant explosions such as the one that occurred today are tragedies that happen all too
often. Despite the
strict regulations that are put into place by the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(OSHA), mistakes occur – both by negligence, carelessness and sheer
reckless behavior. In some cases,
causes of an explosion may be improper training of employees and in other cases it may stem from
equipment being neglected or the use of improper, dirty chemicals.
Regardless, if you or a loved one has suffered injury, property damage
or illness from a plant explosion, it is important to recognize that you
have rights. At Arnold & Itkin LLP, we are acutely aware of the trauma

that can occur. Throughout the years, we have worked with countless victims
to get their lives back on track and to recover the monetary compensation
