Oil Tanker Explosion Injures Two in Karnes County

Posted By Arnold & Itkin || 27-Jan-2015

Emergency medical personnel responded to a tragic call on Monday afternoon, when two workers were injured during an explosion at Premier Tank Truck Service a couple miles west of Karnes City, Texas. According to reports, the two men were welding on an 18-wheeler tank when the tank exploded. It is believed that the explosion was caused because the tank had not been cleaned out properly prior to being welded. One man suffered severe burns to his entire body, while the other man suffered second and third degree burns above his waist. Both men, aged 37 and 44, were transported to a nearby medical center via helicopter.

Work Injuries Continue to Mount on Eagle Ford Shale

Karnes City is located about 60 miles southeast of San Antonio. It rests in the heart of the Eagle Ford shale, which is the largest shale play in the country. Recent developments in fracking processes and technology have brought a boom in oil and gas production to the region over the last five years. However, along with the economic boom has been a drastic rise in the number of work-related injuries on the shale. Just last week, five men were killed in another part of the Eagle Ford Shale after colliding with an oil tanker in Dimmit County.
