Just this afternoon, a plant belonging to Packaging Corporation of America
exploded, leaving 3 dead and 7 others injured. The plant is located in
Beauregard Parish, Louisiana. Currently, the sheriffs have secured the
area—but there’s no word on what actually caused the explosion.
The objects that exploded seemed to be two tanks inside the plant, but
there’s no word on what the tanks contained. Sadly, the 3 fatally
injured workers have been confirmed dead, and a fourth worker was missing
for a brief period. However, he has since been found. The injured workers
thankfully only had minor injuries, with one worker sustaining moderate injuries.
The local hospital, Beauregard Memorial, only received 3 patients from
the blast, and 2 of them were discharged shortly after. The third is in
stable condition and receiving treatment.
The explosion site is being investigated by several departments currently,
- Louisiana State Police Hazmat
- Department of Environmental Quality
- The State Fire Marshal’s office
There is no fire and no warnings about air or water quality in the immediate
area. We’ll provide any crucial updates as they occur. Our thoughts
and prayers go out to the workers and their families.
