Anadarko Oil Tank Explosion Kills 1, Injures 3

Posted By Arnold & Itkin || 26-May-2017

On Thursday around 3:15 p.m., a fire broke out at an Anadarko Petroleum oil tank in Weld County. Shortly after, an explosion occurred that sent smoke up in the air that could be seen for miles around.

One person was killed by the blast and three others were injured. Two of the workers were sent to North Colorado Medical Center for treatment and the other was sent to Medical Center of the Rockies.

According to witnesses, the explosion could be felt for more than a mile away. One man described it as being like “two bombs going off back-to-back.” Another called it a “violent explosion.”

The blast occurred approximately five miles from the home where a deadly house explosion occurred just one month ago. The state is continuing to monitor underground gas levels.

Currently, the cause of Thursday's explosion is unclear and an investigation is ongoing.
